Training program

In line with the provisions of the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), the training program comprises theoretical and practical classes, exercises, case studies analysis and self-study.  This activity is carried out under the supervision of the Scientific Committee and it is guided by the teaching staff. The classes take place on weekends, two classes a month on Saturday or Sunday, plus an entire weekend (Saturday and Sunday) every two months. This is to allow those engaged professionally on weekdays to participate.

The postgraduate School of Brief Strategic Therapy, based on the assumption of learning by doing, is mainly structured on applicative work. After an initial theoretical training, most of the hours are dedicated to analyse videotapes and real clinical cases. In the first two years, in addition to the hours spent on teaching basic theoretical concepts, the work is mainly focused on studying, together with the teacher, videotapes of therapies concerning specific disorders carried out from the first to the last session. For each case, the communication, the relationship and the technique used for the treatment and resolution of the case are analysed session by session.

Special attention will be paid to the technique of the clinical interview which, in brief strategic therapy, is both diagnosis and intervention. In fact, this technique is able, already in the first session, to modify and restructure the perception of the person with respect to their own problem. Later, during the third and fourth year, students will have the opportunity to follow, in co-therapy with Giorgio Nardone, three to five patients and observe, through a closed-circuit camera, the therapies carried out by the Director of the school so that they can get to the heart of their profession. The cases followed and completed by each student will become the subject of their final thesis.
